Mr Bennett later received oesophagogastric surgical training at the Bristol Royal Infirmary and Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.

Further training included minimally invasive procedures such as laparoscopic cholecystectomy and hepatobiliary surgery.

Eighteen months general gastrointestinal training on a specialist colorectal unit and a further fifteen months breast and vascular surgery at Derby City Hospital
